Lutetian (SBZ13-16)

8BZ 16 (late Lutetian)
Defined by the biostratigraphic range of: Nummulites herbi, N. deshayesi, N. praepuschi, N. aturicus, N. carpenteri, N. puigsecensis, Assilina gigantea and Discocyclina pulcra balatonica. The lower boundary is located in the lower part of Chron 19r, according to magnetostratigraphic data in Bentham and Burbank [1996] and to biostratigraphic data in Samso et al. [1994], integrated in Poblet et al. [1998]. SBZ16 falls within NP16 according to Kapellos and Schaub [1973] and Canudo et al. [1988], and within P12 according to Canudo et al. [1988].

SBZ 15 (Middle Lutetian 2)
Defined by the biostratigraphic range of: Alveolina prorrecta , Nummulites sordensis, N. crassus, N. millecaput, N. tavertetensis, N. crusufonti and Orbitoclypeus douvillei chudeaui. The lower boundary is located in the upper part of Chron 20n, according to magnetostratigraphic data in Bentham and Burbank [1996] and to biostratigraphic data in Samsó et al. [1994], integrated in Poblet et al. [1998]. SBZ15 starts in the uppetmost part of NP15 and reaches far into NP16 following Kapellos and Schaub [1973].

SBZ 14 (Middle Lutetian 1)
Defined by the biostratigraphic range of : Alveolina munieri, Nummulites beneharnensis, N. gratus, N. aspermontis, N. hilarionis, N. stephani, N. boussaci and Assilina spira spira. The lower boundary is located in the upper part of Chron 20r, according to magnetostratigraphic data in Bentham and Burbank [1996] and to biostratigraphic data in Samsó et al., [1994], integrated in Poblet et al. [1998], and coincides approximately with boundary PIO-Pll [Hottinger, 1977]. SBZ14 corresponds to the upper part of NP15 [Kapellos and Schaub, 1973].

SBZ 13 (early Lutetian)
Defined by the biostratigraphic range of : Alveolina stipes, A. callosa, A. cayrasi, A. hottingeri, Nummulites laevigatus, N. obesus, N. verneuili, N. uranensis, N. lehneri, N. messinae, Assilina parva, Ass. tenuimarginata, Ass. praespira and Ass. spira abrardi. The lower boundary of this biozone coincides with the Lower Eocene-Middle Eocene boundary, located at the base of Chron 22n [Berggren et al., 1995] and corresponding to the P9-PIO boundary according to Berggren et al. [1995]. SBZ13 starts in NP14 and ends in NP15 [Kapellos and Schaub, 1973].
